Dypsis lutescens, also known as golden cane palm, areca palm, yellow palm, or butterfly palm, is a species of flowering plant in the family Arecaceae, native to Madagascar.

Areca Palm was popular with the Victorians and remains a firm favourite. An elegant plant, easy to look after, with excellent air purifying qualities. They are undemanding in terms of light, water, temperature, humidity, and feed, making them perfect for those of us that like low-maintenance room-mates.

Not edible. Non-toxic if accidentally ingested.

PLANT CARE

  • Light: They do best in bright, indirect light but tolerates some direct sunlight as well.

Water: The amount of water the Areca Palm needs will depend on how much light it receives. Brighter light means more water, while lower lighting means less water. On small palms, the surface of the soil should be dry before giving it more water. On larger palms, the soil should be dry at least one inch down in the soil before adding water.
